Postbank Confirms How Long They Will Replace Sassa Gold Cards

Postbank Confirms How Long They Will Replace Sassa Gold Cards. Millions of South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) grant beneficiaries face a major change in 2025 as the expiration of their SASSA gold cards approaches. Postbank has provided clarity on how long they will be replacing these cards and ensuring that social grants remain accessible to all recipients.
SASSA Gold Card Expiry and Replacement Plan
From 20 March 2025, more than one million social grant beneficiaries will no longer be able to use their SASSA gold cards for transactions, including grant withdrawals. However, Postbank has assured the public that there will be no disruptions to grant payments.
To address this issue, Postbank has announced that the replacement process for expired gold cards will continue until the end of June 2025. By this time, all beneficiaries requiring a new card should have received a black Postbank card, which will replace the current gold card. The black card will function similarly, allowing beneficiaries to withdraw their social grants from ATMs and retailers nationwide.
Alternative Payment Methods for Grant Recipients
Beneficiaries who do not replace their expired SASSA gold cards by April 2025 can still collect their social grants using alternative payment methods. This includes visiting any of the 540 Post Office branches across South Africa to collect their grants. Additionally, asylum seekers and Postbank grant beneficiaries will also be able to access their funds using these alternative channels. However, those who have already received their black Postbank cards must withdraw their grants from ATMs or retailers, as Postbank will not be assisting these cardholders at Post Office branches.
Assistance for Bedridden Beneficiaries
For beneficiaries who are unable to visit a Postbank branch due to health conditions, Postbank and SASSA have put special arrangements in place. Bedridden beneficiaries can request a home visit to assist with their SASSA card replacement. To qualify for this service, they need to register at their nearest SASSA office and provide:
- A valid South African ID
- A medical certificate confirming their condition
- Proof of their medical condition
- A cellphone number for communication purposes
This service can also be arranged by contacting the SASSA call centre or Postbank customer support.
Postbank’s Assurance of Uninterrupted Grant Payments
In a joint statement, SASSA and Postbank reassured beneficiaries that there will be no interruptions in grant payments, even if some have not yet received their black Postbank cards by the time their gold cards expire. The aim is to ensure that all beneficiaries continue receiving their grants without complications.
